For several Jewish holidays, including the solemn and all-important Yom Kippur, we are told by the sages that in ancient times, Israelite women engaged in ritual dance in sacred groves. In this engaging workshop, we'll travel back to the book of Genesis, and the groves of the Israelite Kingdom, to discover traditional merry-making and marriage-making in the name of Goddess.

In this trip through time, I'd like to take us back to an earlier age ... when returning to the Divine at "the head of the year" meant a ritual renewing the community's stewardship of the earth, and the passing on of Abraham and Sarah's fertility blessing.
This earlier understanding is directly connected to the wisdom of the Great Mother in Hebrew shamanic culture ... and to the devotional practices of the first patriarch and matriarch of the tribes, Abraham and Sarah.

- Understand sacred marriage theology & practice in early Mesopotamia, and how the Hebrew Bible reflects it
- Discover the Goddess underpinnings of Tu B'Av, holiday of love, and Yom Kippur, the most solemn day in rabbinic tradition
- Explore the role of trees and groves in feminine practice and theology, before the reformers banned it
- Learn and chant the marvelous wisdom of אלהים Elohim and אמא עילאה Imma Ila'ah, two early Hebrew titles for the Great Mother
- Drum for the Great Mother as Tree of Life, using texts inspired by the Hebrew Bible book of Proverbs
- Experiment with wonderful seated and standing movement practices to massage the womb and open the heart
- Learn a drum dance with frame drum, in the traditional style, for dancing around trees
